We treat everyone with dignity and respect, valuing the diversity and strength of our community.

We work together with partners, volunteers, and supporters to maximize our impact and achieve our mission.
Our Story
In 1988, SupportWorks Housing was founded under the name SRO Housing of Richmond by a small group of volunteers working to end homelessness in Richmond, Virginia. Our first studio apartment community, New Clay House, opened in 1992—services were provided by VCU social work students and the 47 residents shared kitchens and bathrooms. It was the first supportive housing for homeless adults in Virginia.
From securing millions in government grant revenue, to developing our scattered-site programs, to building community partnerships, we have spent over three decades pursuing our mission while finding innovative and sustainable ways to expand and improve our capacity.
While our mission has remained the same, the past thirty-five years have seen SupportWorks grow in ways unimaginable at our founding. Today, SupportWorks is the largest provider of supportive housing in Virginia, serving over 1,600 people across three regions.
